Nye skjerf og pakke - New Scarves and Parcel

The warp was turquoise combed wool 14/2, and some wise men and women have predicted that it will be this years trend - I just hope it's true! Anyway, I'm very happy everytime I see something turquoise on the cover of a magazine.
The weft is woolen yarn in the same quality and I've used five different weft colors, so I've ended up with five slighly different scarves. The weft colors are blackish blue, dark blue, deep skye blue, dark sea green and violet/brown. Unfortunately the colors don't show up so well in the pictures. I used a 3/1 turned twill on eight shafts and eight treadles, so the side facing up when weaving is weft-dominated, the side facing down is warp-dominated.
The scarves are delivered to the local crafts shop. Every month they set focus on one local crafter, and I'm so lucky to be the chosen one in March. I hope some of my stuff will be sold!

Yesterday I went to fetch a parcel at the post office. It had traveled all the way from the Canadian eastcoast and it's journey had lasted for almost two months. In the beginning of January I had written a comment on a post in Susan's blog "Thrums", and by that participated in a yarn lottery. I never thought that I could win, because I never have winner's luck. But this time I did! And I've got a sting of bad conscience thinking of the postal fee...
The parcel contained two rolls of chenille in a beautiful green and violet hue, and a lovely card. Thank you so very much, Susan! I've never woven with chenille, because it's not a common weaving yarn here, does anyone have a project to recommend?

  4. The scarves are lovely! I like what I think is the dark sea green one. But each has a lot of WOW power. Congrats on the yarn score!
If it was cotton chenille I would say towels but I believe that's rayon and here it is used quite often in scarves. I've never dealt with chenille myself, so please, when you do decide on a project, let us all know how it goes!

  7. Charlotte, lovely colours! Congratulations that you are chosen for March display. Hope your work will sell well.

I've used chenille in one project, but this was cotton chenille. I had dyed the yarn and it got into a tangle and the yarn started to lose it's threads. In the end I wove a structure that encapselled the chenille yarn to stop it from losing more threads. Still, all chenille will need special attention I believe. Make samples to see if the structure you want to weave wormes or not.

  9. Charlotte, beautiful! I love turquoise and I love that your scarves are reversible.

It's been awhile since I've woven with chenille, but it does make a lovely fabric.

  11. For noen flotte skjerf.

  14. Your scarves are beautiful! I noticed them when you first posted, but had a very busy week and haven't been able to make it back to your blog until tonight.

I love turquoise, so let's hope it really is the color for the year!

Eva Stossel's Weaving Blog here shows some details or her work with chenille. My understanding is that the sett should be pretty tight, you should use plain weave to prevent worming. You must twist the fringe, if you have it, or the fringe will lose all the pile and just be the center core yarn. Eva definitely has finishing instructions that I've used and had success with.

I'm sure you'll weave something beautiful with the chenille! Good luck!

PS: Thanks for your advice on felting. I haven't totally decided, but I'm leaning toward just buying more of the same yarn so I don't have trouble. (I have enough unavoidable trouble on my projects!)
