Dobbelvev og blå-hvit mars - Doubleweave and the Colors of March

After having cut down the turned twill shawls, I decided to weave something else on the remaining warp, and I went for a doubleweave.
I wove with two shuttles, and the little squares consist of two separate tabby layers, like small closed pockets. I didn't make a drawing first, but just wove on with the leftover yarn from the large, blue shawls.
I am very happy with the result, but now I'm a bit fed up with blue.
I've made a new warp, and it is black.

I participate in Sue's challenge to catch the colors of each month in different places all over the world. Here are the colors of March on 69.7 northern latitude.
March has been cold, but we got at last enough snow and we've had a lot of lovely weather.
The colors of March are blue and white. At the beginning of the month large ice cystals grew on trees and shrubs.
There is some green - pine trees. The pine is not indigenous so far to the north.
Lysegult, hvitt og brunt lav.
Lichens in white, yellowish and brown.
We still have some snow left, and I'm glad that we can go skiing the next weeks.

Ha ei trivelig påske!
I wish everybody  a happy Easter holiday!

  8. Beautiful snow and scarf. The scarf picks up those wonderful turquoises one can see in the shadows of the snow on a bright day.

  9. Wow - you really do have a lot of snow! We're having an unusually early spring with lots of rain here, so snow is fading in my memory.

The ice crystals are really beautiful and interesting. We don't get those here...although I've seen pictures from out west in the US somewhere too.

Love your doubleweave project!! It looks beautiful. Those colors are some of my favorites, so I'm not sure I'd ever get sick of them. (But by the end of every warp I'm sick of it.....so I guess it's possible!)

Thanks for showing your colors! Happy Easter!

  10. You have so much snow! The ice crystals are familiar. We have something similar here in the high mountains for NW Nevada. It's called pogonip and is an English adaptation for the Shoshone Indian word for cloud, as in ice cloud.

  11. Thank you everybody! We don't have those big ice crystals often, I guess the temperature and the humidity have to be just right. We don't have a special word for them in Norwegian, but I'm quite sure the Sami have, who are indigenous here in Northern Scandinavia, and who have a rich vocabulary concerning snow and ice.

  12. Your double weave looks beautiful! Yesterday I was making plans for a double weave myself, and a black warp is waiting to go on the loom. Coincidence?

  13. Still so much snow! Your double weave is lovely. Just the right color to go with all that whiteness you have everywhere.

Flotte vinterbilder.
